Privacy Policy
Effective 26 September 2026
Sunaiye helps families record a relative's spoken stories and turn them into written chapters. Family stories are personal, so this page explains plainly what we collect, why, and who else touches it.
Who is responsible
Sunaiye is operated by Sunaiye ("we", "us"). For privacy questions or requests, contact us at snappycipher@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account. You sign in with Apple. Apple gives us a unique identifier for you and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address (which may be Apple's private relay address). You can also enter a display name.
- Your family archive. The storyteller's name, what you call them, the languages you choose, the names family members use, and invitation codes.
- Recordings and stories. Voice recordings made in the app, the text transcribed from them, and the chapters written from them. Also reactions and questions family members send, as text or voice.
- Notifications. If you allow them, a device token so we can tell you a chapter is ready or a family member has responded.
- Purchases. Whether your family has an active subscription, and related purchase details from Apple and our subscription provider. We never receive your card details.
- Technical logs. Our servers record requests, including IP address and time, to keep the service secure and to limit abuse.
We do not collect your contacts, location, or photos. We do not currently use advertising, analytics or crash-reporting tools, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Voice recordings, transcripts and AI
Turning a spoken story into a chapter uses automated tools run by other companies:
- You (or a family member) record audio in the app, and it is stored with our storage provider.
- The audio is sent to a speech-to-text provider, currently Groq, to be transcribed.
- The transcript, along with the questions that were asked, is sent to AI language models to suggest follow-up questions, pick moments from the recording, and write the chapter. Today this is Groq; we may also use Anthropic for chapter writing.
We use your recordings and stories only to provide these features. We do not use them for advertising. These providers handle the data under their own terms and privacy policies, which may include keeping it for a period of time, and we do not control that. Please read their policies if you have concerns. Automated transcripts and chapters can contain mistakes.
How we use your data
- To run Sunaiye: sign you in, store your family's recordings, transcribe them, write chapters, and let family members listen and respond.
- To send notifications you have allowed.
- To manage subscriptions and check what your plan includes.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
Who can see your stories
Within the app, stories, recordings and chapters are visible only to members of your family archive. People join by invitation from the account holder, and we enforce this with access controls on our database and storage. Because we run the service, our team and the providers below can technically access stored data. We use that access only to operate, secure and support Sunaiye.
Companies that help us
We share data with service providers only as needed to operate the app. They process it for us:
- Supabase — database, sign-in and file storage.
- Render — hosting our servers.
- Groq and, where enabled, Anthropic — transcription and AI writing, as described above.
- RevenueCat — managing subscriptions.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, purchases and push notifications.
- Sentry — crash and error reports, so we can fix problems. Reports contain technical details (device model, app version, where the error happened), never your recordings, stories or names.
- TelemetryDeck — anonymous usage counts (for example, how many people finish a recording). It uses an anonymous device identifier that is not linked to your account, and never receives your recordings, stories or names.
Each provider has its own privacy policy. We do not sell your personal data.
Where your data is processed. These providers may process and store data in countries other than your own, including the United States. This is subject to applicable law and to the safeguards and agreements our providers use. We do not control where each provider runs its systems.
Deleting your account and how long we keep data
We keep your data until you delete it. You can delete your account in the app at any time: Family → Delete account. Deletion is permanent.
- If you are the account holder, deleting your account permanently deletes the whole family archive for everyone in it: recordings, transcripts, chapters, reactions, questions, invitations, and the subscription record we hold, along with your account and profile.
- If you are a family member or storyteller, deleting your account removes your account, profile, reactions and notification token, and the questions you asked (including any voice recordings of them). If a question of yours was already answered in a story, we keep the question but remove your name from it. Stories that were recorded on your account stay in the family's archive.
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription (do that in your Apple settings). It also does not by itself delete copies held by others, such as Apple, our subscription provider, our AI and hosting providers and their backups or logs, which follow their own retention practices. We do not set a fixed retention period for those.
Your rights and requests
Where applicable under the law, you can contact us to:
- ask for access to the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct inaccurate information;
- ask us to delete your data (you can also do this yourself in the app);
- withdraw consent where we rely on it;
- ask questions or make a complaint about how we handle your personal data.
Email snappycipher@gmail.com and tell us what you need. We may need to confirm it is really you. Depending on where you live, you may also be able to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Sunaiye is not intended for use by children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use encrypted connections and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
